1. What is a good cage for a hedgehog?

The Hedgehog Cage should be large enough to allow the hedgehog to move around. 2 x 3 feet (61 x 91cm) should be the minimum floor space provided. Walls must be high enough to prevent escape, as hedgehogs are good climbers. A glass aquarium or smooth sided cage is a reasonable choice for many owners.

2. Do hedgehogs like multi level cages?

Multi-level ferret or rabbit cages can allow a hedgehog more room to explore without taking up extra floor space, but when using multiple levels, keep in mind that a hedgehog has poor eyesight, can climb easily, but has difficulty descending and often does not seem to understand heights, so it is highly recommended

3. Do you have to keep a hedgehog in a cage?

Hedgehogs need a minimum of 2.5 to 3 square feet of floor space to explore. You can purchase larger wire cages from the pet store, but you can also build your own. You could also use a guinea pig cage or rabbit cage since they can accommodate most small pets. You actually don't need a new cage.

4. Do hedgehog cages smell?

The most common cause for a stinky hedgehog is a dirty habitat. Over time your hedgehog will go to the bathroom in their cage. Eventually, feces and urine will build up and create an unpleasant smell (as you can imagine). So even though your hedgehog doesn't smell bad on its own, their waste does.

5. Do hedgehogs like belly rubs?

Being belly up and exposed goes against all their survival instincts, so it is pretty unusual to have belly rubs accepted right away. Hedgehogs are not nearly as far removed from wild animals as dogs or cats so these instincts are still strong.
